Alice Barbara (Johnson) Porter, 78, of Popponesset, MA passed away peacefully on January 11, 2019 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. Barbara is preceded in death by Carl J. Porter, Jr., to whom she was married from 1984 until his death in 2003. Barbara is survived by her daughters, Joan Mulloney Stone of Wenham, MA and Maureen Mulloney Favuzza of Saugus, MA; her son-in-law, Robert J. Favuzza, her beloved grandchildren, Allyson G. Favuzza, Cara N. Favuzza, and Robert J. Favuzza, Jr., all of Saugus, MA; her extended Thurber and Porter families, and countless friends.
Barbara was born in Brooklyn, NY on January 16, 1940 to Charles and Alice A. (Thurber) Johnson (deceased). She graduated from Westboro High School, after which she was a policewoman at the Westboro Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police. She left the Massachusetts State Police in 1967 to start a family with her then husband, Thomas R. Mulloney (deceased). Barbara was a loving and dedicated mother to her daughters as a stay at home mom. She re-entered the workforce in the 1970s working in a variety of jobs and spent the last several years of her career at Home Instead Senior Care, a job she loved.
Barbara had an extraordinary zest for life. No matter what the circumstances she had a positive, optimistic outlook. Her light shined brightly, making friends easily and often. Apart from her daughters, Barbara’s greatest loves were her three grandchildren, taking great pride in their many accomplishments and cherishing the time she spent with them, especially in Popponesset, her favorite place in the world. Barbara was a kind and thoughtful person who spread love wherever she went, always putting others ahead of herself. Her family asks that you honor her legacy and the values by which she lived by performing acts of kindness.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Cape Ann Animal Aid or a charity of your choice. The family of Barbara Porter wishes to thank the people at The Center for Leukemia at the Mass General Cancer Center and the Kaplan Family Hospice House who gave her extraordinary care.
