Danette M. (Steele) Gouthro, age 63, died peacefully on Jan. 10 while in the comfort of her family after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
Danette had become an inspiration for the Town of West Bridgewater this past holiday season as she became the catalyst for an outpouring of love and support expressed through “Christmas Lights”. What started out as a small gesture to help her through the rough days, West Bridgewater residents pulled together in their normal fashion going above and beyond with their Christmas light displays. The Christmas lights displayed around town became a show of unity for a community that comes together in a time of need, and gave Danette the strength to live well past two Christmas’s; one held in November and the tradional one on Dec. 25th.
Danette loved children and through her illness was able to raise awareness for Toys for Tots and other organizations that helped children in need. Danette grew up in Marshfield, daughter of the late Daniel and Margaret (Bates) Steele and was a graduate of Marshfield High, Class of 1973. She met the love of her life Patrick at a family function and the two would marry on November 23rd 1974 and raise their children in Abington. She was a devoted homemaker when she was younger and later in life became a beloved member of the Crocetti’s OakDale Packing Company. Danette was always a talented cook and her position at Crocetti’s gave her the freedom of cooking generational recipes that had been handed down to her own recipes that her boss would allow her try. She was adorned by her coworkers and often surprised them with what she could whip up for the next sale.
Danette will be missed by all who knew her.
She was the loving wife of 44 years to Patrick T. Gouthro of West Bridgewater and loving mother of Patrick J. Gouthro of Brockton, Renee M. Gouthro of Fall River, Lisa J. Holden and her husband Jeffrey of West Bridgewater, proud “Nana” of Jenna, Kristopher, Braelyn, Ella, Mia, Sophia, Alexandra, and “Nanny-Nette” of Elizabeth and Kristina. Sister of John, Raymond, Jerry, Alan, Karen, Clare, Catherine, and the late Maureen and Evelyn. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
