Glenn Bryant Sr. passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan 1st surrounded by his loving family. He was 76.
Glenn was born in Brockton, MA on June 2, 1942. the son of Gertrude (Kelley) and Chester H. Bryant. He attended Huntington Elementary School, later moving with his family to Lowell, MA where he attended Varnum Jr. High and Lowell High Schools. He received his B.A. from Boston University in 1964 where he was a member of the Crew team, Sailing Club and Glee Club. During that time Glenn fell in love with Chatham, MA where some family members had relocated, and met the love of his life Penny Stevenson as members of the 1st Congregational Church Choir during the summer of 1963.
In 1966 Glenn received his M. Ed. in Counseling from Bridgewater State College and taught 6th grade English before becoming a Guidance Counselor at Harwich High School for 36 years, retiring as its Guidance Director. He was the Harwich High golf coach for 27 years, bringing home the Cape & Islands Championship a total of 9 times. He served on the Monomoy School Committee from 2013-2014. He was a member of the Chatham Chorale, Chamber Singers, and the First Congregational Church Chatham Choir. He was an avid reader and loved fishing, shell fishing, cooking, and golf.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Penny (Stevenson) Bryant, his sons Glenn Jr. (Jennifer) of N. Attleboro, David of Los Angeles, and a daughter Anne (Daniel) of Los Angeles, seven grandchildren: Samantha, Cullen, Catherine, Charlotte, Griffin, August, and Parker, two sisters, Gail Marshall (Bob), Maddie Thomas (Hal) and many nieces, nephews and two dogs Winnie and Holly.
A celebration of his life will be held at the First Congregational Church in Chatham on Friday, January 11th at 2pm.
