Dennis Port- Joel D. Ricketts “Paypa”, 19 of Dennis Port MA passed away on January 10, 2019 in the arms of his mother, surrounded by family and friends at Mass General Hospital after succumbing to injuries from a car accident in Jamaica.
Joel was born on June 26th, 1999 in Mandeville Manchester, Jamaica. He was the son of Roderick & Marcia Ricketts.
Joel was raised in Mandeville Manchester Jamaica, where he attended grade school. In 2015 he migrated to Dennis Port, Massachusetts where he attended Cape Cod Regional Technical high school, graduating in June of 2018 from Engineering.
Joel loved computers, fashion design, music, soccer, his moms Jamaican cooking, watching movies, standup comedy, fried ice cream, going to the beach (but not swimming), going out to eat and his family & friends. He also loved hanging out with his siblings, talking, dancing, being goofy and hugs from mom. He was known as being the best dressed, do to his good fashion sense. Among the many things that Joel has accomplished, he also designed a small clothing fashion line in Jamaica.
He was always the one to lighten up a room when he entered it, he hated to see anyone sad or hurting. He was the first one to always want to help someone in need or struggling. Joel always put God first in his life, he and his family were members of the First United Pentecostal Church in Mandeville Jamaica & Mid-Cape Worship Center in Dennis Port, MA.
He was predeceased by his grandparent’s Virginia Williams & Randol Goulburne.
Joel leaves behind to cherish his memory, his parents Marcia Ricketts& Roderick Ricketts of Dennis port, MA. Grandmother Sylvia Murray & Grandfather Roy Ricketts of Mandeville, Jamaica; his siblings, Christopher Reid of Hinesville, GA, Jhanell Ricketts of Dennis Port, MA, Alecia Ricketts of Queens , NY, and brother in Spirit Michael Tavares of Dennis Port, MA. As well as a host of Uncles, Aunts, cousins, family & friends.
We are grateful for all of the love, prayers, donations and kind words over the last few weeks by the community in Jamaica & Massachusetts as well as the medical team of Mass General Hospital in Boston, MA.
Family & friends are invited to attend Joel's funeral service in celebration of his life. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 18th from 5-8 PM at Morris, O’Connor & Blute Funeral Home, 58 Long Pond Drive, South Yarmouth, MA 02664. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 19th at 11:30 AM at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Island Pond Cemetery, Harwich, MA 02645.
