Mr. Thomas A. Szymkowicz

1921 ∼ 2019

HARWICH - Dr. Thomas A. Szymkowicz of Harwich, MA, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2019, after a brief illness. He was born in Coventry, RI on December 14, 1921, son of the late Antoni and Kunegunda Szymkowicz. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Helen Juras Szymkowicz, and their son Mark. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Michael and Nicole, a great-granddaughter Makenna, and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by 6 brothers and 4 sisters.

Tom was a graduate of Coventry High School and Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He served in the military with the 88th Infantry Division as a regimental dental officer during the post-WWII occupation, first in the Venezia-Guilia area of Italy. He remained in the Air Force Reserve following discharge from active duty, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was a practicing dentist in RI for 36 years. He was an avid golfer and a long-time member of Cranberry Valley Golf Club. He also enjoyed fishing, boating and gardening. A Prayer service will be on Friday January 18, 2019, at 10:30AM, at Morris O’Connor & Blute Funeral Home, 678 Main Street, Harwich Ma, 02645. Followed by a burial at 1PM, at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne Ma.
