Mr. Vincent J. Abbott

YARMOUTH PORT - On January 2, 2019 Vincent (Jimmy) J. Abbott died peacefully in his home with his family by his side.
Born on October 7, 1923 to Vito and Angelina (Servedio) Abbattescianni in Bronx, N.Y. He graduated Bronx Vocational Technical H.S. boat building program. 
He enlisted in the US Army and served for three years as a technical Sergeant. He survived the Battle of the Bulge.
After the war, he began his shipbuilding and carpentry career at the prestigious Henry Nevins Shipyard in City Island,N.Y. He built fine yachts and America’s Cup winners. Here he met the love of his life, Betty. After their honeymoon on Cape Cod they decided that someday they would live on the Cape. In 1977, they bought their dream home in Yarmouth Port. 
Vincent is survived by his wife and Best Friend of 66 years Elizabeth (Betty) L. Abbott. He is survived by his daughter Angela Redmond, her spouse Kevin and their children Elizabeth, James and his partner Cassie. He is also survived by his son Jim and his daughters by Lyn and their husbands Angela and John Bergonzi, Katie and Christopher Swift, Amy Abbott and Jacob Fleming, Allyson and Blaise Laporta and Mary and Andrew Caplice. He cherished his great grandchildren Sophia,Bella,Jake, Maymie, Julian and awaited the birth of John Peter.
Vincent will be remembered as a prayerful Man of God. He was the calm, wise rudder of his family. He thoroughly enjoyed his life and liked to fish, clam and sail. He could make or fix anything. He was an avid horticulturalist and reader especially of his Bible. His wisdom and insights were often sought by those wise enough to ask. Job well done Good and Faithful Servant. ‘Twas a Fine Sail.
Services will be on Friday morning 1/25/19 from 10-12 at Morris, O’Connor and Blute Funeral Home, 58 Long Pond Dr, Yarmouth. Followed by Interment at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:30pm.
