Ralph John Houseman, Jr.

Ralph John Houseman, Jr., reached the end of a beautiful life January 5, 2019. He was the father of 4 children and husband to his cherished late wife of 62 years, Norma (Broker).  He was predeceased by beloved sons David Bruce Houseman and Mark Darrell Houseman, and is survived by son Michael Hausmann, of Bridgewater, MA, daughter Denise Houseman and her husband James Pidgeon, of Manchester, NH, and Mark’s wife Sharon of Lancaster, MA.  He is also survived by grandchildren: Nancy Nash and husband Brian of Sacramento, CA; Mark Darrell Houseman Jr. and Gretchen Houseman of Clinton, MA; Elizabeth Silva and husband Alex of Townsend, MA;  Melody Hart and husband Shaun of Ashby, MA; Melissa Younger and husband Drew of Vernon, IL; Charlene Houseman and fiancé Daniel Fryburg of Pompano Beach, FL; Denise Houseman of Worcester, MA; Katherine Houseman of Dartmouth, MA; and Matthew Houseman and Jacob Houseman of Lancaster, MA.  Ralph is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren.

Ralph was born July 12, 1933 and grew up in Cambridge and Newton, graduated Newton HS and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.  While stationed at Staten Island he met Norma, the love of his life.  They raised their family in Hudson, MA before retiring to Cape Cod in 1994.

Ralph began his career as a draftsman and worked his way into mechanical engineering at various high-tech companies in the Boston area. A trip to see Blackstone the Magician, as a child, inspired a life long love of magic and illusion.  From youth through old age he amazed friends and strangers with professional and impromptu shows.

Ralph and Norma were communicants of Cape Cod Covenant Church for over 20 years, whose support was much appreciated.  A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held in Spring.

Ralph’s family is grateful for the kindness and care of Maplewood at Brewster and to Angie and the crew at Beacon Hospice for their endless compassion.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Beacon Hospice, 68 Center St. #19, Hyannis, MA 02601.
