Richard “Dick” W. Davenport

 Richard "Dick"  W. Davenport, 87, of Brewster, Massachusetts, passed this life on February 1st, 2019 after a long illness. 

Dick was born in Braintree, Massachusetts in 1931 and attended Thayer Academy prep school.  He eventually attended Dartmouth University in 1953 and transferred to Cornell University where he graduated with a B.S with distinction in Hotel Management in 1954. After proudly  serving in the United States Army for two years, Dick married his wife Cynthia in 1958,  and they went onto have three children.  Richard worked his entire career managing hotels and country clubs in Southern Pines (Mid Pines), on Nantucket Island (the White Elephant and Harbor House) and on Cape Cod (Eastward Ho Country Club).    Richard had a huge influence on the many people he managed and worked with over the years, who affectionately referred to him as “Mr. D”.   He retired in 2001 and enjoyed golfing, playing duplicate bridge and going to the health club. 

Dick is survived by his two sons Rick Davenport (Julia Monteiro) of Brockton, Massachusetts, Blake Davenport (Carolyn), of Brewster, Massachusetts, and his daughter Virginia Rigsbee (Kenneth)of Raleigh, North Carolina.    He leaves behind four grandchildren – Alexis (9), Justin (14), Brian (20) and Jordan (24).

The family with receive visitors and friends at Morris, O’Connor & Blute Funeral Home, 678 Main Street, Harwich Center on Saturday, February 9, 2019 starting at 11:00AM and concluding with a Service at 12 Noon. Please join the family and close friends for a celebration of Dick’s life immediately following the service.
