Richard W. Benson, Sr.

Richard W. Benson, Sr. of Bridgewater passed away on February 13, 2017 at the age of 76 . Dick was a graduate of Brockton High, class of 1958, and honorably served in the US Air Force from 1959 to 1963 and with the Massachusetts State Police from 1964 to 2003 retiring with the rank of captain.

Dick was the son of the late  Robert E. and Doris C. (Taylor) Benson of Brockton.  Brother of John Darrah of Florida, Michael Darrah of Whitman and the late William Darrah.    His significant other is Mary Jamison of Bridgewater. He was married to Juanita (Angie) Benson of Halifax and the proud father of Cheryl Anne Sullivan of West Yarmouth, Richard W. Benson Jr. of Middleboro, Jennifer Marie Bowman of Plympton, and Victoria Anne Bossio of Carver. Grandfather of Marc Antoine, Nicholas Sullivan, Olivia, Katie and Emily Benson, Rachel and Christopher Bowman.

He enjoyed a hobby of antique cars and a member of The Wheels of Time Car Club, the South Shore Antique Auto Club, The Early Ford V-8 Club and  The Crown Victoria Association. He was a communicant of St. Ann’s Parish in West Bridgewater.

Funeral from the Prophett-Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home 98 Bedford Street Bridgewater Saturday at 9:00am.

Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church West Bridgewater at 10:00am.

Visiting hours Friday, February 17th from 4-7pm.

Donations may be made to Hope Hospice 765 Attucks Lane Hyannis, MA 02601.

 Burial will take place at a later date in  St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Brockton.
