HARWICH - Roland James Barros, 71, of Harwich, MA passed away Sunday, January 20, 2019, at Cape Cod Hospital due to complications. Roland was born in Hyannis, MA on December 3, 1947, to Agnes (Galvin) Barros and George Monteiro Barros.

Roland grew up in Harwich. He was a loving father, brother, uncle, grandfather, godfather, and friend to many. Roland was a quiet, gentle, hard worker, and kind man. He lived his life giving to others. He loved cooking, fishing, and visiting with his grandsons.  He spent much of his time visiting the beaches of Chatham, and fishing in the Atlantic.  Roland enjoyed the quiet of Chatham and often cooked meals at the community center for the residence.   Roland worked at various restaurants as the head Chef for many years. Roland will be missed dearly by many.

He is survived by his son, Rolando Dominic Alvey; his daughter, Candice Howard; siblings Mary Jean, Mauchelle, Mitchell, and Missy; and grandchildren, Kenyai Christopher Gomes, Kendall Sirmane Gomes, Kayden Jewel Diaz and Kylani Marie Diaz . He also leaves two aunts, Nancy Peters and Betty Ann Mendes; and one uncle, Sonny Galvin. There are many nieces, nephews, and cousins that loved him.

He is predeceased by his parents; and siblings, Georgianna, Larry, Jonathan, Cheryl and William.

Service for Roland J. Barros will be held at Masonic Hall, 242 Old Bass River Rd., South Dennis, MA 02660 on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 2 – 4 PM.
