Rosemary Mathews

Rosemary “Rosie” Mathews, 73, of Falmouth passed away on June 9, 2019 after a long illness. She was born in Falmouth to the late Peter and Alice (Andrade) Gomes.

Rosie was a graduate of Lawrence High School in Falmouth. She worked as a housekeeper and loved gourmet cooking and trying new recipes. She also enjoyed home decorating, floral arranging, and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.

Rosie is survived by her sons, Louis Mathews, Jr. of Falmouth and John Mathews and his wife, Dawn of North Falmouth. She was predeceased by her son, Russell Mathews of Falmouth. She also leaves her 5 grandchildren:  Britany, Louis III, Brendon, Jordan and Jaylen; and 7 great grandchildren. She was the sister to 5 brothers:    Richard and Peter Gomes, both deceased, and Edwin, Gilbert and Joseph Gomes, all of Falmouth; and 7 sisters:  Pauline (Gomes) Pratt and Alice (Gomes) Bartrum, both deceased, Ruthanne (Gomes) Viera, Nadine (Gomes) McCall, Mary Jo  Gomes, all of Falmouth, Patricia (Gomes) Hilliard of New Bedford, and Ramona (Gomes) Washington of Maine. She also leaves many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 5-7pm on Tuesday, June 18th at Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Falmouth. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am on Wednesday, June 19th at St. Anthony’s Church, 167 E. Falmouth Hwy (Route 28), East Falmouth. Burial will be in the St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
