Centerville – Theresa M. (Arsenault) Smith, 70 of Centerville, MA, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on March 4, 2019, after a long courageous battle with gastric cancer. Theresa was born on March 31, 1948, in Boston, MA. To the late Joseph and Catherine (Sullivan) Arsenault. A 1968 graduate of Boston City Hospital School of Nursing, she was a Registered Nurse with over 50 years of exceptional service dedicated to the care of her patients. She married Paul J. Smith on May 31, 1969, and together they raised four children. Formerly of Uxbridge, MA, Paul and Theresa eventually moved to Cape Cod to be close to the beach, a place she adored, spending many days walking the shore in search of shells, sand dollars and other treasures. In her spare time, Theresa combined her passion for helping others and her love of knitting in several charitable knitting groups to create hats for chemotherapy patients and blankets for the homeless and nursing homes. However, her greatest joy was spending time with her family whom she was especially proud of. Friends and others who knew her keep a special place in their hearts remembering her laugh, generosity and bravery. She was a true friend.
She is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 50 years, Paul J. Smith, daughters Aileen and her husband Charles H. Pilyer of North Attleboro, MA, Jeaninne and her husband William Kincaid of Bourne, MA, Kristin and her husband Danny Costa of Somerset, MA, her son Paul M. Smith of Uxbridge, MA; her sister Janet and her husband Jerome Stanisz of Monmouth, ME; brothers Joseph Arsenault and his wife Marie of Las Vegas, NV, James Arsenault and his wife Paula Jo of Braintree, MA; her 4 grandchildren Tyler Michael Smith, Kathryn Nichole Kincaid, Jackson Hunter Costa, and Mary Catherine Pilyer as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours are on Monday, March 11, 2019, 1 to 3 pm and 5 to 8 pm at John-Lawrence Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Rd., Marstons Mills, MA. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 am Tuesday at Our Lady of Victory Church, 230 S. Main St., Centerville. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Theresa’s name to Cape Cod Hospital, C/O Cape Cod Health Care Foundation, PO Box 370, Hyannis, MA 02601.
