FALMOUTH—Violet I. Johnson, “Vi,” passed away peacefully at her home at Atria Woodbriar on March 3, 2019, at the age of 88.
Violet was born in Taunton, MA and graduated from Taunton High School. She was the daughter of Elizabeth Tsika Ratsy and Peter Ratsy who came to the US from Albania. They settled in Falmouth Heights and ran the “Cottage Club Store” in the Casino by the Sea building where Violet and her brother helped manage the store for many years. It was there that she met her husband, Robert of 65 years, while serving him a strawberry ice cream cone from the soda fountain. He was a baseball player and would play at the ballfield across the street.
Violet and her husband were co-owners of the “Cozy Cottage” restaurant on Main Street, Falmouth, with her brother, Arthur for 4 to 5 years.
After raising 4 children, she became a certified nursing aide and worked for Falmouth Nursing Home for 17 years before retiring.
Violet was an enthusiastic fan of all Boston sports teams. She also enjoyed boating, traveling to many Caribbean Islands with her husband, gardening, bowling, playing cards at the senior center, bingo and most of all, Old Silver Beach. Violet was a strong, caring woman and a beautiful example to her family.
Survivors include her children, Carol (John) Varao, Sharon (Darius) Urbon, Robert L. Johnson, Jr. (Schuyler) and Christine Johnson; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Arthur Ratsy.
Relatives and friends are invited and may visit with Violet’s family on Friday morning, March 15, 2019 at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 584 West Falmouth Hwy. (WEST FALMOUTH) from 8:30 AM until 10:00 AM. A funeral Mass will follow in St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 481 Quaker Road, North Falmouth at 10:30 AM.
