Allyne B. Conner, 90, of Harwich, passed away on March 7, 2019.
Born and raised in Worcester, MA, Al was a passionate woodworker, chef, snowmobiler and family man. He worked at Allen Harbor Marine for a number of years before opening his own marine mechanic business, Al Conner’s Marine Service. In the late 60’s and 70’s he was a lieutenant on the engine company of the all-volunteer Harwich Fire Department. He also served as a pack leader in the Boy Scouts as his two sons made their way through Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.
In the 70’s he pursued his passion for cooking by opening Simply Elegant Catering with his daughter-in-law Kim, catering many private events in homes and at Allen Harbor Yacht Club.
Al was extremely proud of his service in the Army Air Corp/Air Force in World War II during the Berlin Air Lift. He had the pleasure of finding and joining the Burtonwood Reunion Group made up of other people who served at Burtonwood Air Base in Warrington, UK, attending a number of reunions in both the UK and the US.
His woodworking skills are legendary and his furniture and creations grace the homes of all his children, grandchildren and friends. Al particularly loved to make American Flags and give them to all his friends and family.
He had coffee most mornings down at Thompsons Market and then The Mason Jar with his friends, solving the problems of the world and sharing news of the day. Al also loved Maine and enjoyed many winters snowmobiling around the Jackman area and up into Canada.
Al, Dad, Papa and Great Papa will be sorely missed by all whose lives he touched. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruth (Abrahamson) Conner; sons Steven Conner (Kim) of Harwich, Peter Conner (Brenda Lundquist) of Sebec, Maine, and daughter Ellen Scherer of Harwich; grandchildren Kyle Conner (Erin) and Kalyn Rambacher (Daniel). He is predeceased by his son-in-law, Shawn Scherer.
Al was delighted to welcome 3 great grandsons into the family, Lachlan and Paxton Conner and Logan Rambacher.
A visitation will be held Thursday, March 21st, 2019 from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm at Morris, O’Connor & Blute Funeral Home, 678 Main St. in Harwich Center. Interment will be private.
