Arthur A. Ebenfield

1927 ∼ 2017

Arthur A. Ebenfield of Falmouth, Massachusetts died on October 7th at home. He was 90 years old. His children, Marc and Margot were at his side throughout his final decline. Arthur was the beloved husband of the late Barbara Geronimo Ebenfield.

A graduate of City College in New York, he attended Brown University for graduate work, leaving ABD after being recruited by the CIA. He worked for the CIA as an analyst in Washington, DC for 25 years and consulted with a variety of defense firms from his home in Falmouth immediately following his retirement.

He read voraciously, anything and everything. His pleasure increased as he puffed on his pipe, and he often read several books at a time.

His love of sports was legendary and began at a young age. In his free time, he would head for the ballfield or basketball court, or find a pickup game of football or soccer. He recalled the time his Dad took him to watch Joe Lewis fight. He proudly recounted running a 4:35 mile while in high school. In retirement he became an avid golfer and was hugely proud of Barbara’s accomplishments on the course.

Arthur volunteered in the community during his retirement. He assisted in the Chaplain’s office at Falmouth Hospital for 16 years and volunteered for many other organizations including the Republican committee, Reading for the Blind and Veterans’ groups.

He is survived by his children, Marc Ebenfield (Lesley Brennan), Margot Nusbaum Giuliano (Robert), Herbert Jeffrey Nusbaum, Wendy Chicoine, Jennifer Donoghue, and his step-children Granville, Bob, and Kathy. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren (Michael, Ellen, and Christopher, Joey and Jamie) and 4 great grandchildren (Carina, Aurelia, Serafina, and Lucia). Of his siblings Joan, Helene, and Herbert he is survived by his sister Helene Ebenfield of Arlington, Virginia.

He will be missed. We give special thanks to Donna Piccione, Rev. Sally Miller, and John Powers.

A graveside ceremony will be held on Saturday, October 21 at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Falmouth at 2:00 PM.
