Arthur Theodore Grohe, Jr. passed away in the early morning of Oct. 17, 2019. He was the loving husband & life partner of Donna Grohe (Swift) of 55 years. Mother-in-law Shirley Swift was a supportive, inspirational force in his life. Father to Arthur T. Grohe III of Hyannis & Leah & Michael Rogers of Marstons Mills. Loving grandfather to Max (Grohe) Lacostic of Haverhill, Jeremy Rogers & Emily Rogers of Marstons Mills. Arthur also leaves behind his niece Kimberly Keyworth of CA. and nephews Robert Keyworth of Weymouth MA and his fiancé Balbina and their daughter Isabelle & Keith Lathrop of Boston MA. The tragic death of Geoffrey Keyworth in 1984 was a life altering experience for the whole family. His brother-in-law Bob Lathrop. Arthur was born June 5, 1943 in Boston MA of Gertrude Grohe (Carmen) & Arthur Grohe.
With his sisters Gretchen Keyworth & Randi Lathrop, Arthur and his family spent their early years in Pittsfield MA & Barrington Rl where he met Donna, his future wife at the bus stop on the way to junior high school.
He graduated from Cheshire Academy in 1962 and immediately began his career in banking in Providence R.l. Following in his fathers' footsteps Arthur joined the National Cash Register Company where he quickly and forcefully achieved the highest sales goals and standards, as his father had done for many years before him. Arthur was then given the opportunity to join Western Union Telegraph Co. as Vice President of sales and marketing. He spearheaded the project to launch the first communication sattilite in 1976.
Beginning a new phase in his life Arthur and his sister Gretchen conceptualized and opened Signature, a fine American Craft Gallery in Hyannis Ma, in 1979. Quickly as Signature grew to four locations, Arthurs' sister Randi, Donna, Leah, and Tripp (Arthur 111) joined to make a true family business.
In 1991, Donna and Arthur joined West Parish of Barnstable and quickly became involved with the life of the church. Arthur served as treasurer for several years. His biggest pleasure was his involvement in the West Parish Family School. While at West Parish he met Ken Hines and together they enjoyed time sailing. After Kens death Arthur proudly bought "North Star ". He and Donna enjoyed many wonderful days sailing, picnicking, and just hanging out on his dream boat. He especially loved time on "North Star" with his children and grandchildren.
He was a proud member of the Fraternal Order Masons' and was given much love and support by the members of the Mariners Lodge in Cotuit. Arthur began to deal with the effects of dementia and found incredible understanding, love and support from every member.
Arthur's family wishes to thank those special caregivers at Bridges by Epoch in Mashpee, Falmouth Hospital, Beacon Hospice and Bourne Manor.
A funeral service will at West Parish of Barnstable Sunday, Nov. 3, at 2:00 PM.
