Barbara Joan Lewis, daughter of Frank and Estelle Lewis, lived in Falmouth for her lifetime, passed away on Friday, October 2nd in the Falmouth Hospital. She was 82. Born in Hyannis, Ma in 1937. She graduated from Lawrence High School in 1956. Her activities in high school were high school band, where she played the drums, orchestra , glee club, acapella, and choir. Some time later she joined the interfaith choir. After high she worked for Ferreira & Motta Insurance agency, housekeeper at St. Patrick’s church rectory and Su Chef at Woods Hole Golf Club. In 1987 she started working for the NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service in Woods Hole as a biological Technician where she worked for 17 years. She participated in the scientific research vessel surveys along the eastern coast.
She was an avid candlepin bowler for 30 years and participated in a Massachusetts Bowling Tournament in which she won a trip to Bermuda.
She was a communicant of St. Anthony’s church. Member of AARP and the Council On Aging and enjoyed many trips offered through the Senior Center which she traveled through the USA ,and Italy.
She leaves her son Mark Almeida and his finance Ginger Hope, her daughter, Robin Brown and her husband, Doug Brown of Falmouth, brothers Richard Lewis of Florida, Gary Lewis Sr. of E. Falmouth, and the late Robert and Ronald Lewis, Her sisters, Sandra Dutra of Falmouth and Susan Castro of Virginia. Her two grandsons, Ryan and Kyle Brereton of Falmouth. And several nieces and nephews.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the memorial fund of Cape Cod Healthcare
Visiting hours will be from 4:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday, October 7th in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral, 475 Main Street, FALMOUTH CENTER.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 8th in the St. Anthony’s Church, 167 East Falmouth Hwy. (Route 28) East Falmouth.
Burial will follow in the St. Anthony’s Cemetery
