Benjamin C. Pigsley, Jr. passed peacefully from this life on September 27, 2019 from natural causes. Ben was predeceased by his beloved wife Mary Ann in 2017 and by his brother Prince and sisters Tereesa and Francis.
He is survived by his brother Hap (Harry) Pigsley of Wisconsin and his sister Lyla Halstead of Iowa; six children: Mary Jude of Holden; Benjamin and his wife Julie of Largo, Florida; John and his wife Lorna of Beverly; Timothy of Henniker, New Hampshire and his wife Lané; Joseph of Falmouth; and Elizabeth Daniels and her husband Kenneth of Phoenix, Arizona, as well as 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Ben grew up on a farm in Lewis Iowa and enlisted in the United States Navy after graduating from West Liberty High School. He met Mary Ann at a USO dance in June1958 while stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. They finally married on September 17, 1960 after enduring long separations during Ben’s service on the destroyers USS Robert A. Owens and USS Rich. After completing his service in the Navy, Ben and Mary Ann moved to Philadelphia and began their life together. Throughout the years, they made their home in New Jersey, Illinois, Florida, and finally, Massachusetts.
After a career in manufacturing of corrugated paper (not cardboard), in which he supervised projects in the US, Canada, and Mexico, Ben and Mary Ann retired to Falmouth. He enjoyed traveling the world, as well as playing and listening to Irish music. He and Mary Ann played often at seisuins all over Cape Cod, where Ben played the bodhran and whistle. Most recently, he enjoyed playing (and winning) Team Trivia on Fridays with his friends at Colonial Gardens. This past Friday, though, he and Mary Ann were undoubtedly waltzing at a heavenly ceili, together again.
