HOLLYWOOD, FL—Catherine V. Kinchla, 87, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2017. Born in Waltham, MA a daughter of the late Francis A. and Mary Doherty Shannon. She was a 1946 graduate from St. Charles High School in Waltham and it is there where she met the love of her life, her husband, Robert J. Kinchla whom she married on June 9, 1951 in St. Charles Church in Waltham. Catherine attained her Business Administration Degree from Regis College in Weston, MA.
Prior to their marriage, Robert purchased a summer home on Shorewood Drive in East Falmouth. While raising their family in Wayland, Robert and Catherine established a building/contracting business in Falmouth in 1958, known as Kinchla’s Incorporated. On a part time basis they built and developed several sections of Maravista. As their successful business grew, they moved their family of five to Falmouth permanently in June 1964. Catherine was an integral part of Kinchla’s Inc., working side by side with Robert on a daily basis. They built and developed over 250 homes in areas of Falmouth as well as in Sandwich, Plymouth, Bourne and Martha’s Vineyard. Additional businesses that they established included Falmouth Chrysler-Plymouth on Worcester Court, The Homeport Office Complex on Gifford Street and they also built the First National Bank of Cape Cod (which is the present location of Santander Bank) in Falmouth. In 1972, they purchased land on Jones Road and built the Sheraton Inn. Robert and Catherine eventually took over management and daily operations of the Inn.
Survivors include her beloved husband, Robert J. Kinchla; devoted children, Susan E. Augusta and her husband Roger of East Falmouth, Janet L. Rapp and her husband Michael of Hollywood, FL, Catherine A. Domurat and her late husband, Paul of Sandwich, Robert F. Kinchla and his fiancée, Katrina Dhority of Falmouth, Anne M. Spaes and her husband Alan of Boynton Beach, FL; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; siblings, Mary Ellen McCarthy of Scituate; Francis A. Shannon Jr. and his wife Faith of Onset; William F. Shannon of Dracut; the late Arthur M. Shannon, formerly of Scituate. Catherine is also survived by many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.
Relatives and friends are invited and may visit with Catherine’s family on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Falmouth.
The reading of the eulogy will begin promptly at 9:45 AM at St. Patrick’s Church, 511 Main Street, Falmouth; followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow the Mass at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
