Cecilia Koester Osborne passed away in her home on October 6, 2020 following a courageous battle with metastasized breast cancer, she was 64 years old. She was the beloved wife of W. Lee Osborne, with whom she shared 10 wonderful years.
Cece was born and raised in Buffalo, NY. She attended Buffalo State College where she received her bachelor’s degree in Education. She continued her education at the University of New Hampshire where she received her master’s degree in Education. Teaching was Cece’s passion. She was a dedicated special needs teacher in public school systems for many years. However, she was an educator in other areas as well, including founding her own boat building school, and as a certified yoga instructor.
Cece will be remembered most for the work she developed with her company, Movement Based Learning, Inc. Through this company, Cece created means, methods, and an international network for teaching people with special needs. Through her own experiences as a special need’s teacher, she was able to draw out the gifts and abilities of children and adults with complex developmental needs. She authored several books and manuals to present this program over the years and created Building Blocks Activities to implement Movement Based Learning in their own teaching. Throughout her career, her company reached out to many parents, teachers, and therapists all over the world and her books and manuals are currently in print in 12 languages. She took great pride in teaching her workshops and enjoyed travelling with her husband Lee.
Cece will be remembered as a remarkable teacher, gifted author, and a compassionate mentor to all those who her worked positively impacted. She will be greatly missed by those who were lucky enough to have experienced her presence.
She is survived by her sister, Carol Dentice, of Angola, NY; brother, Walter Koester, of Auburn, NY; sister, Cindy Cook, of Angola, NY; three grandchildren and many adoring nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her stepdaughter; Kacey Steinbach; and stepsons Michael and David Osborne.
