Charles F. Fredey III, born on June 18, 1928, died peacefully on May 18, 2019, at the age of 90. He was a resident of Sarasota, FL since 1983, having moved from Wollaston, MA.
Charles graduated from Newton High School in 1946, and graduated from Boston College in the class of 1952 with a B.S./B.A. degree. He joined the U.S. Air Force on October 2, 1950, during the Korean conflict, serving two and a half years of active duty, and five and a half years in the U.S. Air Force reserves, attaining the rank of Captain.
Charles had a long and varied work history. He was branch manager in Syracuse, NY, for a major office machine equipment manufacturer, founded a direct mailing and credit card company, and developed real estate holdings in New Hampshire and Maine. Upon moving to Sarasota he worked for many years at Arvida Real Estate in its commercial division. In later years he was a self-employed real estate broker, and his last transaction closed just three weeks prior to his death. His private joke was how on the day he was born, three donkeys were put out of work!
Charles and his wife, Carol, met in 1948 in Megansett on Cape Cod, and were married in 1951. Their six children and eleven grandchildren were the highlight of his life. Charles and Carol spent summers in Megansett, surrounded by their happy offspring “busting out of the seams of each cottage.” Charles enjoyed playing tennis with the “Court Jesters” in Cataumet, and many rounds of solid golf at Clausens. He could boil a lobster to perfection, knew thousands of jokes, and read hundreds of history books while retaining the information with his near photographic memory.
Charles and Carol together enjoyed their later years as friendly members of The Oaks Country Club in Osprey, FL, playing golf, tennis, and poker.
Private services and interment will be held at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, MA.
