Charles Robert “Bob” Baxter

Charles Robert (Bob) Baxter, 80, of Marstons Mills, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 25, 2018 after a long battle with leukemia.

Bob was born on March 7, 1937 in Hyannis, Cape Cod. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Charles and Alda Baxter and granddaughter, Kristina Baxter. Bob was a graduate of Barnstable High School, received his Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University and his Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering from New York University. He had a lengthy career as an aerospace engineer responsible for overseeing the flight testing of military and commercial aircraft for Northrop Grumman Corporation on Long Island, New York. As a manager and department head, he excelled at teaching and mentoring young engineers.

Bob was passionate about flying. He received his pilot’s license at the age of seventeen and continued to fly throughout his entire life. He and his wife, Rosemarie, would enjoy flying to various locations including visiting his sons and grandchildren.

Bob was a dedicated husband and was married for 55 years to the love of his life, Rosemarie. He was devoted to his family and loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. As a twelve generation Cape Codder, Bob enjoyed genealogy along with many outdoor activities including backpacking, bicycling and touring. He backpacked the Appalachian Trail for over 500 miles. He was also a Boy Scout leader and participated in many weekend campouts with his sons.

Survivors include his wife, Rosemarie Baxter of Marstons Mills, his three children: John Baxter and his wife Miriam of Bethesda, MD, Scott Baxter and his wife Lori of Carmel, IN and Tom Baxter and his wife Jill of Gibsonia, PA, nine grandchildren: Olivia, Matthew, Stephen, Emily, Kristen Rose, Audrey, James, Ana, and Justiniano Baxter. He is also survived by two sisters Mary Seeman of Pierson Fl and Joanne Baxter of Ormond Beach, Fl as well as several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours are Saturday, February 3 from 9:30-10:30 AM at the John Lawrence Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Road (Rte. 28), Marstons Mills. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Osterville. Burial will follow in Crocker Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital would be appreciated.
