FALMOUTH- CHARLES WESLEY GREGORY JR.  (Wes), age 87, passed away on May 16, 2017 peacefully with his wife of 63 years Sue (Godfrey) and his children by his side.  Born in Bridgeport, CT and raised in Easton CT, Wes was the son of Charles and Florence (Seeley) Gregory, and younger brother to predeceased sisters Virginia and Eunice Gaynor Leavenworth. He attended Bassick High School, graduating from the Loomis Chaffee School, Windsor (CT) and Lafayette College, Class ’49 and member of Zeta Psi Fraternity.

From 1953-55, Wes served as a 1st Lieutenant in the 3rd Armor Division.  He distinguished himself as a sharp shooter on the All Army Rifle Team and received many prestigious medals.

After the army, the young couple settled back in Fairfield, CT where he became Vice President of WarnaCo Inc.  After years of commuting to New York City, he chose to bring his family to Falmouth, MA to start a new adventure and purchased The Shady Nook Restaurant, 1971.

Falmouth became the perfect backdrop for his many passions: golfing, boating, gardening and most importantly – spending time with his family and friends and of course his dogs. As longtime members of Woods Hole Golf Course, Wes and Sue enjoyed the life of avid golfers together. As Captain on his boat and Sue at his side, Wes treasured every minute being with his children and grandchildren traveling Vineyard Sound and beyond. Wooden boats were more than just a hobby to Wes; it was a passion he enthusiastically shared with his family and friends. It gave him a lifetime of enjoyment and comfort.

Wes left the restaurant business, ‘78 to begin a new career with Davis Water and Waste Industries. This eventually led to another family business, Waste Stream Environmental, started with he and his son, Wesley. Together they created a very successful family business that son Wesley still owns today. Wes left many legacies however one of his greatest joys was being with his wife Sue, their children and grandchildren and creating many fond memories for them to cherish always.

Wes leaves his beloved wife “SueBee”, four children, Wesley Gregory, (and wife Caron), Susan Rodenhizer (and husband Jimmy), Betsy Konaxis (and husband Jay) and Sarah Gregory McKinney (and husband Ray); Grandchildren – Jessie, C.W., Pat, Bucky, Jenny, Matt, Cub, David, Jake, Rachel, Corey, Livvy, Stephen and Andrew.
