Clifford M. Whiting III, Retired Bridgewater Fire Department Captain, died peacefully from cancer on July 16, 2017 while in the loving care of his family and the Hospice of the South Shore. “Beanie”, as his family and friends called him, was a devoted father, husband, brother, uncle, friend, and firefighter.
He grew up in Bridgewater where he moved in to his family homestead on Summer St. where he raised his 2 children and his stepson, Jason Reid. Beanie joined the Bridgewater Fire Department in 1974 and after 33 years retired in 2007.
During his tenure at the department he made Lieutenant and at his retirement he retired as Captain. After his retirement he worked for Olde Scotland Links Golf Course servicing the equipment.
Cliff was the loving son of the late Clifford and Leora “Sis” (Braddock) Whiting and devoted father of Gina Luz and her husband Richard of Plymouth and Michael Whiting of Bridgewater. Devoted brother of Susan L. Eaton of Middelboro, Linda L. Jewell and her husband Donald of Carver, Sandra J. Avila and her husband Stephen, Robin M. Jackson and her husband George of FL, Terri A. Hibbard of Bridgewater, and Dawn M. Goodrich and her husband Lewis of Middleboro. He was the former husband of Theresa J. Whiting Boyd of Bridgewater and is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Funeral Home Service with the Bridgewater Fire Department Honor Guard will be celebrated at the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. Bridgewater on Fri. July 21 at 10:00AM followed by a funeral procession honorably lead by Bridgewater Fire Department Engine #3 to Scotland Cemetery, Bridgewater.
Visitation will be held from 3-7 PM on Thurs. July 20th at the funeral home
