I was blessed to know this lovely woman for 35 years. She was gracious on the tennis court and in every other way that she lived her long life. She was dedicated to serving her fellow human beings, professionally and in many volunteer organizations. She loved her family and the East Chop community. Her death leaves a large hole in the hearts of all those fortunate to have known her. My sincere condolences to her family.

The Dowley and Ivison families have a long connection that began with our father, Sterling H. Ivison, Jr., and Bob, when both were young boys, summering on the Vineyard, sailing in the Sound and swimming at the Beach Club. This friendship continued into adulthood, and when both men married, their wives shared this lovely bond. I remember many afternoon sails on my father's sloop, the Mutiny!, with Lal and Bob along for the fun. I won't forget her charming Irish accent, her ready chuckle, and her sincere interest in anyone she chatted with. I know she has left many who will think of her often with fondness. I will miss her.

To all the children I am deeply sorry about hearing about your moms passing. I know my mother also feels very badly losing her friend. Please accept our sincere condolences.

I deeply valued getting to know Lal and her husband when the latter became ill and subsequently died. I so appreciated their shared love of one another and of their famil and friends. In subsequent years I so appreciated working alongside Lal in her astute and loving care of families approaching the end of a loved member’s life. Lal was so much her own self. I especially loved how in recent years she and a friend joined forces and entertained friends together so it was not so much work for either of them. I am not surprised to read she kept up bike riding until recent years. With much love and respect jean hay

Lal and I became fast friends when I was working at the East Chop Tennis Club as a young man. She was always so kind and respectful, supportive, and approachable. What a great tennis player too! We became close and exchanged notes throughout the winter. I always made it a point to visit her in the off-season when it was possible. Everyone who knew Lal has the same stories - she loved her community of East Chop and we all loved her. Rest in peace, Lal. Love, Ben and Kristen Willmott
