Daniel Lawrence Reuter, 85, passed away after a short illness, with his wife of 40 years Betsy (Schaal) M. Reuter, by his side on Friday September 7, 2018.
Born in Lyndhurst New Jersey on April 1, 1933, the son of William Reuter and Mary (Luther) Reuter; brother to William Reuter and Edward Reuter. Dan graduated in 1960 from Stevens Institute of Technology, and served his country with the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Dan retired after a 50+ year career as a packaging engineer, where he had the opportunity to travel overseas while working for several leading companies. He successfully filed a design patent, and his expertise in packaging brought he and Betsy to live in Michigan and Maryland, along with many years in Massachusetts.
He and Betsy spent 20 years in Dunkirk, MD where they worked together, as they had on 3 previous employments. As members of the Friendship United Methodist Church, Dan served as a Trustee. After his retirement he worked several golf courses in guest services.
Dan and Betsy moved to the Cape in 2012 where Dan became an active member of the Osterville United Methodist Church and Mashpee Men’s Club. Dan never slowed down, and quickly joined the guest services staff at New Seabury Golf Course. He will be missed dearly by his friends and coworkers at both New Seabury Golf Course and the Cotuit Arts Centre.
Dan was full of life and had a smile that would light up the room. He was a prankster who loved to make people laugh, and had a gift for making people feel comfortable and at home. Dan’s love of being outdoors was fulfilled during the days he spent on the golf course, tending the gardens, enjoying his morning coffee in his favorite spot on the deck in the sun and at the many beaches across Cape Cod. He cherished memories of family vacations at Sandbridge Beach, Virginia, with his loving wife, children, and grandchildren.
Dan is survived by his wife Betsy, his children Paula (Reuter) Madden; Daniel L. Reuter II and his wife Nicole (Marceau) Reuter; Anita (Reuter) Soutier and her husband Thomas Soutier; Amy Mayotte and her partner Irv Morse; Jenna Mayotte and his grandchildren, Jayce Madden, Tyler Madden, Samantha Hawkins, Meghan Reuter, Lauren Reuter, Rachel Mayotte, Noah Soutier and Ashley Marceau. Dan was predeceased by his son William (Billy) Edward Reuter.
