David Gonsalves Jr.

Yarmouthport – David Gonsalves, Jr. (Buise) passed away at Brigham and Women’s Hospital on February 6, 2019 due to medical complications. He was the beloved son of Maxine Lesser Gonsalves and David Gonsalves Sr.

David was born and raised on Cape Cod. He attended Dennis Public Schools where he graduated from Dennis – Yarmouth Regional High School in 1975.  David was a professional boxing manager and trainer.  He started training in his basement in S. Dennis and then went on to own his own facility, David’s Gym and Fitness Center.  He once took a trip to Oklahoma with family members to Oral Roberts University where he was influenced with the idea of Body, Mind, and Spirit.  He wanted to make this a part of his vision for his gym.  He would not only physically train young people, but he tried to mentor many spiritually as well.  He had a passion for helping kids build their self-esteem and helped many get off the streets by teaching them the art of boxing.  Through this he had multiple amateur champions and many professional contending Fighters.  Some went on to win national amateur titles, others went on to win divisional professional titles.  Most importantly, he changed the lives of his Fighters.

Though David was passionate about boxing, his greatest love was for the Lord Jesus Christ.  He would even take some of his fighters with him to church.  God was so much a part of his life that when obstacles came his way, “David found strength in the Lord.”  David presently was attending Living Hope Family Church where he loved to praise and worship God.

David had many interests one of which was sports.  He was a New England sports fan but he loved his Dallas Cowboys.  David loved dogs.  In the past, he could often be seen in his truck with his dog Tyson.

David was a loving son and brother.  He is survived by not only his parents, but by his many siblings: Dara, Dale, Sean, Bobby, David B., Jeff, Ann Marie, Russell, Lisa, Paul, Adrienne, Steven, David S.  He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and close cousins.  He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Visiting hours will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.  on Wednesday, February 13th at Morris, O’Connor & Blute Funeral Home, 678 Main Street, Harwich, MA.  A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at Morris, O’Connor & Blute Funeral Home on Thursday, Feb. 14th at 12:30 p.m.  Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Rt. 134, So. Dennis.
