David Scot Whiteside, 61, passed away peacefully from complications of pneumonia on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at his home in Cotuit, MA. He was born in Rome, New York on October 15, 1958 to James Stephen Whiteside Jr. and Joan Hall Whiteside who predeceased him. He is survived by the two lights of his life, his son, Cameron James and his daughter, Carly Maureen as well as his brother, James Stephen Whiteside III and sisters, Debra Jane Kroemer and Donna Jean Cameron.
David grew up in Daytona Beach, Florida enjoying the beach, the sun and developing his love for basketball. He graduated from the University of North Carolina Greensboro in 1981 and was just recently inducted into the UNCG Basketball Hall of Fame leading the nation with a 91% foul shooting percentage. When David graduated, he went to work for Oracle having the opportunity to move close to his parents on Cape Cod where he lived most of his life.
His true-life passions were his children, basketball, motorcycles, music, the beach, the sun and spending time with friends. David was always quick with a joke to light up a room and he never met a stranger. He was active with the Cape Cod Bulls AAU basketball team working with local youths. His love for his children and his friends was ingrained in his daily routine, focusing on enjoying each and every day.
David will be greatly missed as a loving father, brother and friend. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at the John-Lawrence Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Road, Marstons Mills, MA; calling hour will begin at 1:30 p.m. followed by a time of sharing to begin at 2:30 p.m.
