David Van Kleeck

David Van Kleeck passed away at home surrounded by family on February 6, 2020 after a long illness.  He was the husband of Merry Holway. David was born in Stafford Springs, CT on July 14, 1954 to Charles and Virginia (Avery) Van Kleeck. At a young age, David’s family moved to the Cape where David enjoyed growing up on the Avenues of Hyannisport, bonding friendships that would last a lifetime.  He was a 1972 graduate of Barnstable High School.

A carpenter his entire life, he liked to answer the question “How long have you been doing this carpentry thing?” with the standard line of “Since Birth”.  David worked on many houses in the Mid Cape and his finish work is well-known. David enjoyed softball and was involved in many leagues before bringing his competitive nature to the game of golf.  He was a charter member of Olde Barnstable Fairgrounds Golf Course and was the Men’s Club Champion in 1999.  He also enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family, especially playing a certain late-night board game. In addition to his wife Merry, David is survived by his sisters, Helen Ranta and Carol Bunker; two daughters, Melanie Mimmo and husband Marc, Stacey Van Kleeck and husband Daniel Gjelsvik; a son David Van Kleeck; and 3 grandchildren: Bryson, Tucker and Ayla.  He is predeceased by sisters Mae Belcher, Alice Spallacci and his beloved dog Jackson.

David’s family would like to thank all those who expressed support and well wishes during his illness and to the staff of Cape Cod Healthcare Hospice for their dedicated service and care to David and the family.

A Celebration of David’s life will be held at a later date.
