Donald L. Bigelow

Donald Bigelow “Don”, age 91, passed peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, November 6, 2020 at the JML Care Center, Falmouth. For 50 years he was the husband of the late Barbara (Smith) Bigelow. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late John Bigelow Sr. and Doris (Powell) Bigelow.

Donald graduated from Medway High School and joined the service in 1951, where he was stationed in Germany and served three years. One of the highlights of his life was a motorcycle trip taken around the country with his best friend Dick. Donald was an electrician for many years at the Jim Did It Sign company in Allston and was a member of the Local 103 Chapter Electrical Union.

Donald spent many summers in Seward, Alaska that he called his second home. He had many friends there, including Jed who was part wolf, and Daisy the beagle. He also was a regular at Denali National Park. Donald loved fishing, hiking, and photographing nature. He also loved exploring the trails on Mt. Washington and Mt. Chocorua, and canoeing on the Allagash River. He loved all nature and made sure every bird in the yard was fed. He enjoyed spending time with his daughter and the family dogs, he enjoyed cooking and was a master at gardening.

He will be missed by his daughter, Donna Bigelow and her partner Harvey Smith, A sister Nancy Lee Jaime Smith, nieces Dotty Jean Skog, Joanne Lesiak and Linda Lee , his nephew John Bigelow Jr.,  Amanda and Matthew Allen, Alex Smith , Béla,  Leo, and Mazen and his pups Archie, Vito and Billy. Many great nieces and nephews and wonderful friends made at JML. Brother- in- law of the late Dorothy Bigelow and nephew of Joey Lesiak.

Donations made be made to Cape Wildlife Center in Barnstable, 4011 Main Street, Barnstable, MA 02630

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
