Donald M. Koslow

Donald M. Koslow, of Mashpee and formerly of Cornwall, NY, died peacefully on January 21, 2018 in Falmouth, MA at the age of 93. He was the beloved husband of Mildred A. Koslow, for whom he was married 68 years.   Donald was born and raised in the Boston area, the beloved son of Stephen and Pinina (MacAulay) Koslow.

Donald graduated from North Quincy High School in 1942. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the U.S. Army on September 17, 1942 and fought in the 749th Tank Battalion European Theatre in WWII, seeing action in both France and Germany. Donald honorably discharged from the Army in December of 1945, and upon returning home he attended and graduated summa cum laude in 3 short years from Harvard College in 1950. After graduation he worked as a librarian at the U.S. Naval War College, while simultaneously completing his Master’s Degree in library science at the University of Rhode Island in 1966.  Donald went on to work as a librarian at both the University of Massachusetts and at West Point Military Academy where he acted as director until his retirement in 1984.

Donald’s love of books led him to volunteer as a board member with the Mashpee Library planning committee.  A plaque with his name commemorates his contribution to the original Mashpee Library.

In 1984 Donald and Mildred retired and moved to Cape Cod. Donald loved spending winters in Portugal on the Algarve and enjoying life with his family and many friends. He will be sorely missed and never forgotten. He was a kind, gentle and patient man who was loved by all that knew him.

In addition to his wife, Donald is survived by his children, Linda Finch, Lauren Koslow and husband Nick Schillace, and Donald Koslow and wife Shao-Ying Koslow; six grandchildren, Mellissa, Andy, Jennifer, Donnie, Zachariah, and Milli-Kate; his brother Perry Koslow; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Burial services will be private at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be made to JML Care Center,  184 Ter Heun Dr., Falmouth, MA 02540.
