Donald R. Stewart

Donald R. Stewart, 91, of Mashpee, MA, formerly of East Falmouth, MA, 91, passed away suddenly Wednesday, March 25 at his home at Laurentide, Mashpee, MA. He was the loving husband of Mary B. Stewart.

Don grew up in Roslindale, MA, son of the late Robert and C. Marie (Ohrenberger) Stewart and attended Roslindale High School before honorably serving his country in the US Navy.

Following his discharge, Don worked in various sales management positions throughout his career, including at Colgate Palmolive and Mutual of Omaha in both Los Angeles and Great Falls, Montana. Don subsequently opened his own Insurance Agency which he managed until his retirement.

In 1998, Don moved to Falmouth, MA where he met the love of his life Mary, to whom he was married in 2001. Don was active in his community where he served as a longtime volunteer for the St Vincent de Paul Thrift Shop and as a community elder caregiver. Don was an active parishioner of Christ the King Church in Mashpee. He was a proud Life Member of the Lions Clubs in both Great Falls, MT and Randolph, MA, where he served as past President and Melvin Jones Fellowship Award winner.

Don was an avid reader and had many friends on the Cape where he also enjoyed his Seniors Bowling League and actively participating in the Capers Club, where he served on the Board of Directors.

In addition to his loving wife Mary, Don is survived by his son, Kevin Stewart and his wife Bonnie, his daughter Lisa Devine and her husband Dennis, all of Great Falls, MT and his sister, Virginia Daley of Randolph, MA.

He is also survived by his step children, Mary Jo Burlone, Carol Altieri and her husband Steve all of North Attleboro, MA; and Stephen Burlone and his wife Susan of Foxboro, MA. He was predeceased by his stepson Donald Burlone of North Attleboro.

He also leaves his loving grandchildren, Justin Lewis; Joe Devine, Kelly Lewis, Donald Burlone, Kait Brown, Steven Altieri, Daniel Altieri, John Altieri, Amanda Lewis, Paige Burlone and Austin Burlone. He was the proud and adoring great grandfather of Maxwell and Oliver Altieri, Tessa Brown and Ellie Lewis. He also leaves his niece Susan Davis and his nephew Larry Daley.

Don was a great hugger. In lieu of flowers, after this pandemic ends, please give someone you love a big hug in Don’s memory.

Due to the restrictions surrounding the Covid-19 virus, a private funeral service will be held at the Chapman Cole and Gleason Funeral Home 74 Algonquin Ave. Mashpee, Ma 02649 followed by a burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
