Doris E. Friedman

Doris E. (Brown) Friedman of Centerville, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed away on June 25 at the age of 94 after a short illness.

Born in Springfield, Massachusetts to Isadore Brown and Sarah (Nozik) Brown, Doris was a 1945 graduate of Classical High School in Springfield. After graduation, she worked at Johnson’s Bookstore in Springfield and attended the Katharine Gibbs School, marrying Morton L. Friedman (also of Springfield) in 1950. She joined the Springfield Institution for Savings (SIS) in 1958, where she worked for more than 25 years, including many years at the Forest Park branch and later as manager of the Longmeadow Shaker branch. She was a president of the Wolf Swamp Road School PTO in Longmeadow and a long-time member of the Sinai Temple in Springfield. After moving to Cape Cod in 1985 with Morty, she worked the drive-up window at the New World Bank in Osterville, where she enjoyed seeing all of the pets, and later as a pharmacy technician at CVS in Centerville.

She was predeceased by her husband and her daughter Margo Paterson, late of Mashpee, Massachusetts (James). She will be sadly missed by all who knew her, especially her daughters Sue Nesbitt (Allan) of Bedford, New Hampshire and Inez Friedman-Boyce (Raymond) of Newton, Massachusetts, her grandchildren Shawn Diefenbach, Christopher Cudworth, Sarah Diefenbach, Kimberly DiRusso (Eric), Walter Boyce and Rory Boyce, her sister Frances Sicilia, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on July 2 at 11:15 a.m. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jewish National Fund ( or the Friends of the Barnstable Council on Aging (825 Falmouth Road, Hyannis, MA 02601).
