Dorothy N. Sisson

1922 ∼ 2018

Dorothy N. (Willey) Sisson passed away peacefully July 3, 2018 at Liberty Commons Nursing Home in Chatham MA at the age of 95.

“Dot” as she was affectionately known by all, was born September 15, 1922 in Worcester, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Eolahbell Stoddard and Paul Scott Willey.    She attended North High School and Salter Secretarial School in Worcester.  Her early career took her to Filene’s in Boston where she enjoyed working in the women’s department selling (and wearing) beautiful clothes.  She married the late Gordon Bailey Sisson on August 28th, 1948.  After their marriage, they bought a home on Gibbs Avenue in Wareham where they raised their two boys.  Dot was a “second mom” to the countless children in the neighborhood and classmates of her boys; many of whom kept in touch throughout her long life.

Once her boys were in elementary school, Dot re-entered the work force and took a position in the Water Department for the Town of Wareham.  A job she kept until her boys graduated from high school.

Dot was a member of the First Congregational Church in Wareham, and found much peace and solace there.  She also served as the Church Secretary for 27 years; retiring in 1986, the same year she moved to her new home in Brewster MA to be closer to her granddaughters.  Dot loved sharing her Brewster home with her many friends and relatives, opening the door to all for visits long and short.

Dot loved watching her granddaughters participate in their sports and extracurricular activities.  She could often be found cheering on the sidelines in her chair, or in the front row of the auditorium proudly listening to a piano recital or watching a tap performance.  As with her boys, she once again became the beloved mom to her granddaughter’s friends and classmates.  This time, however, she would affectionately be known as “Gram” to all.

Dot also loved the Red Sox, especially Big Papi, and enjoyed her annual trip to Fenway Park, proudly wearing her Big Papi Jersey.

Dot loved animals, especially dogs and cats.  She also enjoyed sitting in her chair on the knoll in her yard watching the birds come to her feeders.  Later in life, Dot became an avid reader of fiction; often exchanging books with her sister-in-law Ruthie, friends and family members.

Dot was predeceased by her brother Aaron George Willey and sister Catherine L. Willey Johnson.  She is survived by her brother Paul Scott Willey, Jr., sons, Donald Sisson, and his wife Penny Chisholm, of Watertown MA, and Scott Sisson, and his wife Randi Sisson, of Orleans MA, her granddaughters Mackenzie Ann Sisson and her partner Diana Ventura of Brewster MA, and Rebecca Bailey Sisson and her husband James Murphy of Newburyport, MA.  She also leaves behind countless generations of nieces and nephews.

Donations in her memory may be made to The Animal Rescue League of Brewster MA.

Burial will be private.
