Dr. Joyce G. Harrington
On November 1st, All Saint’s Day, Dr Joyce Harrington passed peacefully surrounded by family and friends. Dr. Harrington fought a brave battle against pancreatic cancer for 22 months. Her family wishes to thank her medical teams for their support and encouragement: Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Hematology Oncologist Specialists of Cape Cod, Falmouth Hospital and VNA Hospice.
Dr Harrington was an exceptionally well-educated professional, who devoted her life to education and to the Episcopal Church. She had positions of leadership in school districts, directing the education of tens of thousands of students, from elementary to college level. Dr. Harrington became a national authority on Magnet Schools and Equity of Opportunity, Curriculum and Staff Development to encourage student diversity.
Joyce received her doctorate from Fordham University, a Diploma of Education from the University of London, a Master in Science of Education from Iona College, and graduated cum laude from the University of Colorado. She held positions of authority including the Assistant Superintendent for Bourne Public Schools, the Director of Equity Compliance in Rockford Public Schools, and Director of Curriculum in Kansas City Public Schools. She was also an Adjunct Professor at Salem State College and Cape Cod Community College
Following her retirement from Bourne Public Schools. Joyce became a Senior Warden at St. Barnabas church in Falmouth, and a Business Consultant and Congressional Liaison for the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts.
Dr Harrington is survived by two daughters, Regina Flanagan and Monica Dapolito and a grandson James Dysart. She also leaves a beloved sister, Ila Binard, and extended family in Colorado and Virginia,
Visitation Services will be held at Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 584 West Falmouth Hwy., (Route 28A) WEST FALMOUTH on Wednesday, November 7 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral will be held at St. Barnabas Church in Falmouth on Thursday, November 8th at 10 am.
