Dr. Richard (Dick) F. Calusdian of Bridgewater died September 6, 2017 at Brockton Hospital at the age of 82. Dr. Calusdian was born in Watertown, MA, son of the late Nevart (Rose) (Giragosian) and Vahan (Frank) Calusdian. Dr. Calusdian was raised and educated in Watertown. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Harvard, a Masters from the University of New Hampshire and a Ph.D. from Boston University. He lived the past 49 years in Bridgewater, MA.
Dr. Calusdian initially worked at the Watertown Arsenal and the U.S. Army Natick Lab before joining Bridgewater State College (BSC) in 1966 as chair of the Physics Department. While there he was instrumental in expanding the science department and working fervently to attract more students to science. He retired from BSC in 1999.
In addition to his interest in physics, Dick was a fan of comic art, sketching, and mid-20th century popular culture. He was a lifelong fan of all the Boston sports teams, especially the Red Sox.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda (Lamphere) Calusdian of Bridgewater and his three children; daughter Diana Andrews and her husband, Stephen, of Hanover, MD; daughter Rebecca Rogers and her husband, Michael, of Raynham, MA; and son Robert Calusdian and his wife, Maura, of Londonderry, NH. In addition, he is survived by his brother Charles Calusdian of Walpole and his six grandchildren; Jaclyn, Courtney, Emily, Garrett, Andrew and Aiden.
Visiting hours will be held in the Prophett-Chapman Cole & GleasonFuneral Home, 98 Bedford Street, Bridgewater, Monday, September 11th from 4-7pm.
Funeral Service in the funeral home, Tuesday at 10:00am.
Burial in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Bridgewater.
