Dulce Watson Bryan, 91, of Mashpee, formerly of Cotuit, died at home on June 28, 2018. She was the wife of the late Marcus K. Bryan.
Dulce was raised in San Antonio, Texas, graduated from Christian College (now Columbia College) and attended Eastman School of Music. She moved to Cotuit after World War II, when her father was stationed at Camp Edwards, and later graduated from Boston University School of Fine and Applied Arts, summa cum laude in Music. She taught music theory and piano to many students at home and through the Cape Cod Conservatory, was Nauset Regional Music Supervisor in the late 1950’s, and continued to mentor piano students throughout her life. Dulce collaborated with chamber musicians and pianists for several benefit concerts for the Cape Cod Symphony, Cotuit Library and St. Peter’s in Osterville, and loved her seasonal seats for the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Cape Cod Symphony and the Met Opera screenings. In her later years when memory was failing, she was still able to play her beloved piano, welcoming the Cotuit carolers each year at her house and leading annual carols with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Margaret R. Kornblum (Richard) of Cotuit, Cheryl K. Ryder of Belmont, Robert W. Ryder (Marianne) of Newtown, CT, Marcus K. Bryan of Oakland, CA, and Joseph W. Bryan of Santa Cruz, CA; 11 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
Her family is grateful to her wonderful caregivers, Lisa, Kristina and Lexi, who kept her laughing and singing until her last day.
A memorial service will be held on October 6th at 11am at St. Peters Episcopal Church, 421 Wianno Avenue, Osterville, MA 02655.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cotuit Library, P.O. Box 648, Cotuit, MA 02635.
