BOURNE - Edmund “Ed” C. de la Cour Jr., 74, of Bourne passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2021, after a bravely fought battle with lymphoma and pneumonia.
Ed is survived by his wife of 41 1/2 years, Marian (Aldrich) de la Cour, his children, Robert de la Cour, David de la Cour, Elizabeth de la Cour with Christopher Butler and his beloved grandson, Trey Butler, who “never ceased to amaze him”, his brother Stanley de la Cour with wife Faith, along with their children and grandchildren.
Ed graduated from Rhode Island College majoring in education and went on to Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary to pursue a life of service for the Lord. He was ordained in 1971 in Georgiaville, Rhode Island and became Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Baldwinville where he met and married his wife. After that he accepted the position as pastor at the First Baptist Church of Pocasset, where he preached for the next 30 years. Most recently, Ed was a Chaplain at Falmouth Hospital, which was a ministry he thrived in.
Ed had the ability to make deep connections with everyone he met. A mentor to many and a friend to all, his humor and wit were unmatched. He was an articulate, caring, wise, loving, genuine, intelligent, charismatic, godly man who will be deeply missed.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday, February 4, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham. (Appropriate COVID-19 protocol will be observed including the use of face masks, social distancing and wait times in line due to temporary limited capacity.
Because of COVID-19 restrictions, funeral services will be private.
A Celebration of Life and Memorial Service is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, June 6, 2021 at the First Baptist Church of Pocasset on the green.
