Edmund C. “Ted” O’Rourke, Jr., 70, of Mashpee and formerly of Falmouth and Malden, peacefully passed away following a year-long battle with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma at his home on February 5, 2017, surrounded by family and dear friends. He was the loving husband of Rosemary E. (Galvin) O’Rourke, to whom he was married for 48 years. He was the son of the late Edmund C. O’Rourke, Sr. and late Helen (Kelly) O’Rourke.
In addition to his loving wife, Ted is survived by his son Christopher E. O’Rourke and his wife Rachael McNally of West Roxbury, his daughter Amy O’Rourke Cardin and husband Darin of Franklin, sister Kathleen O’Rourke of Florida, and brother James O’Rourke of Connecticut. Ted is also survived by his grandchildren, Finn O’ Rourke, Niamh O’Rourke, Lilly Cardin, and Henry Cardin, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren.
Ted graduated from Malden Catholic High School in 1964 and received his bachelor’s degree from Providence College in 1968. Ted proudly served his country in Vietnam with the US Army as First Lt. from August 1968 to August 1970. He held advanced degrees from Bridgewater State University. Ted taught math at Taunton High School for 11 years. He retired from teaching in 2002 after holding the positions of Math Department Chair/Math teacher, Varsity Golf Coach, and Varsity Girls Basketball Coach at Mashpee High School. In retirement, Ted continued to teach math as an adjunct professor at Cape Cod Community College.
Ted enjoyed golf and sailing, and was a lifelong Red Sox fan. More than anything Ted enjoyed spending time with his four grandchildren, who endearingly called him Cap.
