Edna L. Johnson

With great sadness we announce the passing of Edna Lorraine Johnson (née Shores), 82, of Cotuit, MA on April 6, 2018.  Born in Chicago, Illinois on January 31, 1936, Edna was the daughter of the late Ralph L. Shores and Evelyn Gertrude Shores (née Galliher) of Franklin, MA.  She lived a full and wonderful life.  She was a brilliant woman excelling professionally when women were not yet thought of as leaders in the business world.  At the same time, she was a devoted and loving mother to her two sons, Willem Albin Johnson of Cotuit, MA, Alan Bruce Johnson, of Williston, VT, and an unnamed son who passed immediately following birth.  The beloved wife of the late naval veteran William Albin Johnson.  Dear sister of the late Evelyn Miller and survived by sister Nattalie Hawke.  Devoted grandmother of Evan and Anya Johnson of Williston, VT.

Edna grew up in Franklin, Massachusetts, attending Franklin High School and graduating with honors in 1953. Following High School, Edna worked first as a librarian and then as a bank teller, taking classes at the Boston chapter of The American Banking Institute and earning very high marks.  Edna met and married Bill Johnson, a naval cartographer, and began a life of adventure on the water.  Her travels took her from the Hudson River to the Great Lakes and waters of Canada, to the 1964 New York World’s Fair via water.  Eventually settling in Cotuit, on Cape Cod, MA, she was an avid reader, had a gift for baking, and took pride and joy in raising her two sons.  Edna worked as a banker for her entire career, retiring from her position as Vice-President of the Bank of New England in 1994.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a burial service on Thursday, April 19th at 11:00 am at the Mosswood Cemetery, 280 Putnam Ave, Cotuit, MA 02635.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Edna’s name to Hospice Services of Massachusetts.
