Edward D. Gomes, Sr., 84, of E. Wareham, died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2019 at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. He was the husband of Mary Louise (Lopes) Gomes and were married for 58 years.
Born in Wareham, he was the son of the late Raymond Gomes and Mary Barber. Mr. Gomes was a member of Construction and General Laborers’ Union Local 721 in East Bridgewater. He worked for Simeon Construction and Don Martin Construction.
From 1957 to 1961, Mr. Gomes served in the U.S. Air Force and was released from active duty from Pease Air Force Base in New Hampshire.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Edward D. Gomes, Jr. and his wife Lillian Deloatch of Durham, NC and Michael A. Gomes and his wife Robin of Wareham; his daughter, Maria Gomes of Wareham; his brother, John Barber of MS; his grandchildren, Dylan Campitelli, Richard Braley, Tiffany Braley and Kevin Dawson; his great grandchildren, Alexis Nicole Minkle, Jade Ann Bailey, C.J. Bailey, Trinity Thompson, Aniah Campitelli, and Karter Campitelli. He was predeceased by his siblings, the late Arthur Baptiste, Walter Baptiste, Margaret Gomes, Lillian Baptiste, Robert Barber and James Barber.
His funeral will be from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rt. 28), Wareham on Sat., October 5, 2019 at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, High St., Wareham at 10 AM. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Wareham. Visiting hours will be Friday from 4 – 7 PM at the funeral home.
