Edward J.  Barry

Barry, Edward J. from West Yarmouth, formerly of Everett, passed away on Monday, December 3, 2018 with his family by his side at 89 years old.  

He was the son of John F. and Cecilia (Dunn) Barry.  He is predeceased by sisters Alice Popovich McDonald and Patricia Hollett and brothers John and Robert Barry.  Ed is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ann P. (Hoefler) Barry and children Kevin and husband Barry Mullen-Barry of Dorchester, Ellen Lonergan and husband Thomas Lonergan of South Dennis, Michael and wife Kelly Popper of Harwich, Paul and wife Grace Hebard of Dorchester, Susan Waddicor and husband Kenneth Waddicor of Swansea, and Peter and wife Deirdre Hand of Maynooth, Ireland.  He had 16 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and many dear nieces and nephews. 

After serving in the US Marines in WW II, he worked for the B&M Railroad, the U.S. Postal Service, and later was the Vice President for The Barnstable County National Bank of Hyannis. Ed’s greatest treasure in life was his family.  He was proud of his Irish heritage, including his dual citizenship.  He and his wife enjoyed traveling Europe, the Caribbean, and the USA. The family wishes to thank the staff at Mayflower Place, notably the nursing home aids, nurses, and dining room staff, among others, for their kindness and warmth over the last year of his care.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, December 9th  from 1-4 PM at Morris, O’Connor & Blute Funeral Home, 58 Long Pond Drive, South Yarmouth, MA 02664.  A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 10th  at 10:00 AM at St. Pius X Church, Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA.  Burial will follow at Ancient Cemetery.
