Larry, as he was known to all who knew and loved him was born in Gloucester, MA to Edward and Virginia (Fears) Mathews. His family moved to the Cape in 1961.

He began working with father at Bird’s Furniture Restoration Center when he was 18 and eventually took over the business when his father retired in 1999; restoring antiques, refinishing furniture and repairing just about any piece of broken furniture that came his way. He took great pride in his work and would never let a bad product leave his shop.

He married his wife, Lynne in 1980. Just prior to their wedding he joined the Army National Guard where he proudly served his country for 23 years before retiring in 2002 as a Sergeant 1st Class. He was deployed to Iraq during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm and safely returned to his wife and 6 year old son after 6 months.

He was also very active in Boy Scouts his entire life, himself being a Boy Scout and then later on when his son joined Troop 38 in North Falmouth. He was Assistant Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster and also a member of various committees in the Boy Scouts. He and his son enjoyed many Scout activities including their yearly trip to Saco, Maine to canoe the Saco River and numerous weekend camping trips even in the winter.

He was also a VFW life member and a Freemason and was very proud to be a member of both organizations.

Larry was a kind and loving man who would help anyone who needed it. He will be missed by all.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lynne, his son Matt (Meghan) of East Falmouth; his grandchildren, Mackenzie and Reagan; his adopted grandchildren, Jessica, Autumn and Adam, and his father, Edward, Sr.; He also leaves his brothers, Michael (Christine) of Texas, Jamie (Linda) of North Falmouth, Jonathan of Florida, and Chris (Tammy) of East Falmouth; his sweet and sassy niece and goddaughter, Kayla; numerous aunts, cousins and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Virginia.
