Edwin J. Jaworski
1940 ∼ 2019
Harwich - Edwin J. Jaworski, 78 of Harwich passed away peacefully on May 3, 2019 at Cape Cod Hospital. He was the loving husband of Karen (Arnold) Jaworski for 56 years.
Ed was born in Brooklyn, NY to Edwin and Margaret (O’Connor) Jaworski. Ed graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School and Oswego State Teachers College in Oswego, NY. Karen and Ed met at college and married in 1963. In 1972 Ed and Karen decided to move their family to Harwich. Ed worked at Harwich High School as an Industrial Arts Teacher. He obtained his master’s degree from Bridgewater State College and became a Guidance Counselor at Harwich Middle School, until his retirement. Ed loved the kids that he taught and counseled throughout his career in Harwich. Ed coached basketball for many years, both boys and girls. One of his proudest moments was when he reached the state finals with his girls’ varsity basketball team.
Many will probably remember him driving through Harwich Port in his red truck on his daily drive. Among his favorite stops were the bank as well as True Value Hardware (where he worked part time for 22 years). Wherever he went he was always greeted with a smile or how are you Mr. J from a former student.
Ed was devoted to the town of Harwich. He took pride in helping the young people of the community and was very involved. He served on the Park & Recreation Dept. for 15+ years, he was a member of the Harwich School Committee and a founding member of the building committee for Monomoy Regional High School. He was a member of Pilgrim Congregational Church in Harwich Port. Ed loved working with his hands to create things and enjoyed painting with water colors and making bird houses in his spare time.
Above all, Ed was most proud of his family. In addition to his wife he is survived by his children; John (Patty) Jaworski of Harwich, Jennifer (Michael) Coyner of Harwich and Scott (Mike) Jaworski of Cranston, Rhode Island. He also leaves his grandchildren Meggan Jaworski, Nicola (Michael) Raneo, Matthew Pomocka and Taylor Jaworski and his great grandchildren Nikolai Jaworski and Arianna Torres. He was devoted to his three yorkies who loved him unconditionally.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 9th at 11:00 a.m. at Pilgrim Congregational Church, Route 28, Harwich Port, MA. In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to be made to Monomoy Dollars for Scholars, PO Box 244, North Chatham, MA 02650.
