Eileen Doherty Redmond, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by family members on August 25, 2018 in Harwich, MA.
She was born on December 12, 1929 to Harold and Rena Doherty.
Eileen was born and raised in Springfield, MA where she attended Cathedral High School. She continued her education at Our Lady of the Elms College in Chicopee, MA and graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Education in 1951. Soon after graduation she married her beloved, Joseph Redmond. Shortly after marriage they began a family and she became the mother of eight children.
Eileen enjoyed a career of over 40 years in teaching and education. She taught elementary and middle school in various parts of the country including NY, MA, SC.
Her passion for education went beyond the classroom; she taught migrant children during summers and volunteered to teach learning disabled in the Harwich school system. While in her forties, she furthered her education at Harvard.
Eileen was dedicated to her community. She was an active member of Holy Trinity Church, volunteered at the Thrift Shop, and was an active booster of the Elms College. She was also an avid reader, a remarkable water color artist and loved to cook, she could always be found with various kitchen utensils in her hand….all of her children remember the pancake turner fondly.
Eileen is survived by her eight children: Kevin, Tim, Deb, Brian, Michael, KC, Theresa and MaryAnne as well as 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
She now joins Joe in heaven. Slainte!
Family will receive visitors from 3PM-6PM on October 7th at Morris, O’Connor and Blute funeral home 678 Main St. Harwich, MA. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Church located at 246 Main St. West Harwich, MA on October 8th at 10:00 AM. Interment will be at Bourne National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers it would be grand if memorial donations would be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul at PO Box 682, West Harwich, MA 02671 where Eileen volunteered her time.
