WEST BARNSTABLE- Eileen M. Kandianis, 73, a longtime Sandy Neck resident and local real estate broker, passed peacefully at home on Sunday morning. Born in Boston in June of 1943 to Matthew V. and Theresa Donovan, Eileen graduated from St. Clare High School in Roslindale before earning her nursing degree from Cape Cod Community College in 1972.
Eileen enjoyed a successful first career as a head nurse and charge nurse at hospitals in Boston, New Hampshire and Rhode Island before moving to Sandwich and redirecting her skills into community healthcare with roles at the VNA of Cape Cod and the Sandwich Nursing Department.
While crisscrossing the Cape as a visiting nurse, Eileen developed a deep appreciation for the variety and beauty of its communities. Her desire to share these insights with others spurred her interest in real estate and she decided to become an agent. She worked at several agencies in her initial years, before settling in at Century 21 where she became an award winning broker. Well known for her dedication to clients and “for being a straight shooter”, she established many long-lasting friendships over a thirty year career.
Eileen was an engaging conversationalist with a humorous wit; she cherished the simple exchange of ideas with people from all walks of life and loved reading, gardening, baking, and spending time with friends and family. Christmas in the neighborhood was never complete without a tin of Eileen’s tasty baked treats, and her greek pastries wowed even the most discriminating palettes.
She is survived by her beloved husband of forty-one years, Timothy, of West Barnstable; her sons Patrick and Michael; grandson Max; daughters-in-law Trina and Cathy as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. She was predeceased by her brother Matthew Donovan of Sacramento, CA.
A funeral mass will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, February 11th at the Corpus Christi Parish, 324 Quaker Meeting House Rd, East Sandwich, MA 02537. Immediately following the service, friends and family are invited to a celebration of Eileen’s life at the Sandwich Hollows Golf Club, 1 Round Hill Rd, East Sandwich, MA 02537.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you kindly consider making a donation in Eileen’s memory to the VNA of Cape Cod Hospice and Palliative Care, 434 Route 134, Suite D-3, South Dennis, MA 02660 or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, www.nationalmssociety.org/
