Eleni (Canelos) Economopoulos, 79, of North Falmouth MA died on May 19th 2019 surrounded by her loving family.
Elaine was born in Psathi, Greece on January 10th 1940 to Apostolis and Anastasia (Maniatis) Canelos. Elaine lived through the German occupation of Greece during WWII and the Civil war between the Communists and Nationalists. As a child she lost her father to an illness which he contracted as a prisoner in a German Concentration camp in WWII.
Elaine immigrated to the US in 1955 with the help of her beloved brother Konstantinos Canelos. After arriving in the US, she became a cosmetologist and opened her own business in Newton, MA with her beloved sister Vasiliki (Canelos) Mitaras. Elaine and Kiki ran as successful beauty salon called Elki’s.
Elaine met Petros Economopoulos in Brockton, MA and were married for 55 years. They settled in Lexington, MA and raised their two children, Christos and Tashia in the traditions of Greek American customs focusing on extended family and the Greek Orthodox Church. She worked very hard to ensure her children earned a University degree. Elaine and Peter retired to Falmouth, MA where she enjoyed spending time with family & friends, gardening, volunteering at her church and walks on the beach.
Elaine was predeceased by her two beloved sisters Dimitra (Canelos) Karafotias and Vasiliki (Canelos) Mitaras.
Elaine is survived by her husband Peter, son Christos, wife Dena and grandchildren Eleni & Petros, daughter Tashia and husband George, her brother Konstantinos Canelos and many nieces, nephews, sister in-laws, and brother in-laws.
Viewing will be held at St. George Greek Orthodox Church at 1130 Falmouth Rd. Centerville, MA 02632 at 10 am on May 28th 2019 directly followed by the funeral service at 11 am. Interment will take place at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:30 pm.
