Ernest Oliver, 80, of Nantucket died unexpectedly with his loving family by his side on Friday, October 13, 2017.
Proud to be a Nantucket native, Ernie resided his entire 80 years on the island, with the exception of the time he served in the United States Navy aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Randolph, touring the Mediterranean region in the mid 1950s.
Ernie took great care of his home on Hooper Farm Road and you could often find he and his wife Anna puttering around their yard together, which is meticulously maintained year round.
Family was everything to Ernie and he took great pleasure in all of their accomplishments, especially those of his four grandchildren, whom he adored.
Ernie is survived by his wife of 56 years, Anna Berit; daughter Vallorie Oliver and partner Steve Chinetti, son Ernie Oliver Jr., his wife Soo Woodley and their daughter Rebecca; daughter Bonnie (predeceased), her husband Mike Woodley and their children Camilla, Alex and Miles. He leaves behind four sisters Betty, Helen, Ann Marie and Laurel Mae, their spouses, their children and grandchildren. He will be missed by many extended family and friends here on Nantucket.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on November 4, 2017 at 1:00 pm at St. Mary’s Church, 3 Federal St., Nantucket, MA. Visitation will be prior to Mass from 12:00 pm to 12:45 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the Marla Ceeley Lamb Travel fund or PASCON at Nantucket Cottage Hospital.
