Ethel M. Jacobson

Ethel (Cowgill) Jacobson, 100, died Thursday, April 6, 2017 in Chatham Liberty Commons under hospice care.  She was the daughter of the late William and Mae Cowgill, and sister of the late Howard and Russell.

She grew up in Onset in the Church of Christ Campgrounds.  As a young girl she helped her father, the Onset Harbormaster in their shellfish bed.  Ethel graduated from Wareham High and Bridgewater State Teachers College in 1938.  Her first teaching position was in a small town in Maine and later in Dennis, and for many years in Milton.

She loved bowling and was a league member in Buzzards Bay into her late 90’s.  Ethel also volunteered at Tobey Hospital for many years.  She married the late Arvid Jacobson in 1978 and lived in Hyannis until his death when she moved back to Onset

She is survived by her sister, Phyllis Hester and her husband Harold of California, and her brother Edward and his wife Patricia of Washington, and many nieces and nephews.
