Evelyn Ruby (Clarke) Field was born October 16th, 1925, in Brockton, MA, to Mason E and Agnes (Littlefield) Clarke, delivered by her grandfather, George Henry Littlefield. Evelyn passed away peacefully on January 3, 2017.
She graduated from Brockton High School and Katherine Gibbs in Boston l. She met her husband Stanley Field when she became his secretary at the New York New Haven and Hartford Railroad and a romance blossomed. After their marriage in 1946 they lived in Brockton and later in Braintree where they raised their children and worked in insurance for many years. They were married 65 years before his death in 2011. Stanley and Evelyn built a vacation home in Mashpee in 1973 and retired there in1986. Evelyn resided at the Decatur House Assisted Living since October 2015.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Carol. She is survived by her son Walter Field and several nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as many friends at the Cotuit Federated Church where she was a member and served as church secretary for 20 years.
Her greatest love was music (which she may have inherited from her physician grandfather) and she played her viola in the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra for several years as well as for church and family functions
The family wishes to thank the staff of Decatur House for their loving care of Evelyn and the staff of Falmouth Hospital, fourth floor, and the staff of the Mary McCarthy Care Center for her care in her final days.
A memorial service will be held at the Cotuit Federated Church, 40 School Street, Cotuit on Saturday, January 14th at 1PM. Burial will be private.
